scan011Ripley Parish Council works hard in support of local residents and is keen to improve the availability of residential properties in affordable housing schemes, thus enabling local tenants and the children of current residents to afford property within the village.

The parish has already lost many descendants of current residents to housing elsewhere in the borough and beyond due to the high price of accommodation within the parish. It is vital that the village retains its family atmosphere and, to achieve this, we must encourage more young families into the parish. Having said that, affordable housing schemes will only be supported by the Parish Council if they are conducive to the village way of life and the current rural atmosphere of the area. It would be counter
productive were housing schemes, which provide residential lettings or properties for purchase, given the go ahead only to ruin the village atmosphere and appearance of Ripley. Many residents came to Ripley, and stay here, because of the village way of life that Ripley provides and to lose this would be a contributary factor in causing some long term residents, happy with village life, to seek the calm that they enjoy, by moving away.

The Village Plan provides a forum for villagers to state their opinions and have a real say in the future of the village. We are keen to ensure that the village plan is an open and powerful forum with the strength and durability to ensure that those in power hear what we, the inhabitants and business people who make their lives and living in Ripley want for our village. You can visit the Village Plan web site using the link below.

Local residents are keen to have their say and this has already brought about many benefits to the village. The provision of free parking adjacent to White Hart Meadows is one improvement already in place and further attempts to improve the road layout, the flow of traffic and the parking problems within the village are being actively pursued on your behalf.

The Village Green is now beginning to look better due to an ongoing maintenance programme and the complete refurbishment of the children’s play area is another move toward lasting improvement.

The provision of Christmas lighting throughout the festive period each year brightens the village and, we hope, subject to adequate funding, can continue in the future.

There are many arenas in which your parish council is keen to improve the village and its attractiveness to you the residents. We have found that there is a real pride among those who call Ripley their home and long may that pride continue.

For all this, your council can only act on your behalf if you let us know what you want. To do that you can write to us or simply e-mail us using the “Your Say” link below. We look forward to hearing from you and will, where appropriate, do everything possible to act for you in ensuring that Ripley remains a village to be proud of.
