The Parish Council provides a number of amenities in support of the residents and businesses located in the village. These are funded to maintain and improve the appearance of the village.
Although the crime rate is remarkably low in the village, any damage by way of vandalism or criminal damage (ie graffiti) wastes valuable resources in repairs and redecoration and we hope that all of those who live and work in the village will support Surrey Police by reporting any damage they may notice and, in particular, by reporting any ongoing incidents of damage or anti social behaviour.
Money saved by decreasing damage to council maintained equipment and property will allow funds to be better used in providing improved facilities for the village as a whole.
Below we shall try and give you an idea of the range of facilities provided or maintained by the Parish Council.
PARISH CLERK - The Parish Council provides a full time parish clerk who is responsible for the administration of the Parish Council. The current Clerk, Alison Jones, works in the parish office which is situated at the rear of the village hall. Office opening hours are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 9.00am to 4.00pm. Please note: It is prudent to phone the office prior to attending as the Clerk to the Council may be out of the office on site visits or other duties.
VILLAGE GREEN - The council takes responsibility for the upkeep of the village green and its environs. This involves grass cutting and woodland management and takes a considerable effort on the part of the Parish Council. Also included in the village green is the children’s play area which is currently being completely refurbished to improve both the safety standards and quality of equipment within the area.
BURIAL GROUND - The Parish Council are responsible for the upkeep of the burial ground at the village church and a great deal of improvement has recently taken place. Work is ongoing, including a survey and inspection of all headstones to ensure that all are safe to remain in situ.
ALLOTMENTS - The village allotments, situated in Rose Lane, are managed by the Parish Council. They offer village residents the opportunity to grow their own vegetables and fruit and are always in demand.
BUS SHELTERS - This is one of the lesser known council responsibilities. We are tasked with maintaining the bus shelters in the village and, should they be broken through accidental or deliberate damage, the cost of repairs must be met from council funds.
NOTICEBOARDS - The parish Council is also responsible for the upkeep and renewal of noticeboards in the village located outside the village hall, the village green and a partial responsibility for the notice board at St. Mary Magdalen Church.
PLANNING - The Parish Council has appointed representatives who have responsibility for intial consideration of planning submissions within the parish. Their suggestions are passed to the full council which also considers all major developments.
